Just because they are family doesn’t mean they have permission to abuse/mistreat you.
Just because they are family doesn’t mean you have to be in a close relationship.
You can be family, and have boundaries.
Sometimes those boundaries are a permanent separation. And that is 100% ok.
What is not ok, is continually allowing the abuse/dysfunction to trickle from generation to generation because no one would STOP, step up, and finally set the boundaries.
We are to love and forgive, but not even Jesus took His entire family with him. In fact, He built His inner circle with only 2-3 family members, (I can’t remember if it is was 1 or 2 brothers and His mother Mary was sometimes mentioned being with him). From there He built a new family/relationships/friendshi
Don’t fall for the trap that just because your family means you have to stick together and tolerate being mistreated. You can love and support without being involved.
